'Smack'ing Down the Changes: Recent week mixes it up for the WWF

Jeff Hardy's reign as IC champion is shortened to one episode, Kane loses his Hardcore belt to Rhyno, and he and his brother, the Undertaker, are tag team champions! And that's just as of this past week.

I can't say enough how badly I hate Chyna as Women's champion. It's such a step down for her in her career. She used to be someone to admire: a woman who could compete with men . . . and give them a run for their money, too. Sure she was more manly than most of them, but that was what made her kick so much ass. Now, after a makeover, a Hollywood diet and countless surgeries to, as J.R. says, "highlight her feminine features," she has mutated into no more than a really tall, really strong bimbo with a fancy belt and her own clothing line. Yes, I did say clothing line. No, it's not called Amazon-ish and Fitch; it's called C9.

Rhyno is quickly reaching new heights on my most-hated-list. He has long surpassed Raven and is riding X-Pac's heels (though he is far from Albert, who takes up the top 20 slots). He joined this list sometime around when he needlessly beat up the greatest former Hardcore champion of all time and current Light-heavy Weight champion, Crash Holly and when he actually won a match against Kane. I know the Big Red Machine wasn't doing much with that belt, but it doesn't belong around the waist of the Rhynocer-suck.

And speaking of things I don't particularly like, my friends and I have come up with a rather tragic prediction for the main event on April 29's pay-per-view, "Backlash." It will be a tag-team match: Undertaker and Kane versus Austin and Triple H. As for the belt that will be on the line: all of them! I mean Taker and Kane's (undeserved) tag titles will be up against Triple H's and Austin's respective IC title and Heavy Weight championship. I haven't worked out how the Brothers of Destruction will divide their winnings, but I guess that's not really my problem anyway. As much I dislike their being tag champions as often and as long as they are, Edge and Christian, I'm praying, manage to get back their belts before this becomes a reality.

But this isn't because I hate Taker and Kane as a tag team (which I do, but for other reasons). I want the Undertaker to have a nice few months as the WWF Champion before he retires or before the Rock comes back to reclaim the belt or both. The Dead Man is getting a little too old and his injury list is getting a little too long to be fighting with the big dogs in this game. And unlike other greats, such as Terry Funk or Sgt. Slaughter, the Undertaker won't take a backseat and play with the smaller cats until he burns out. This guy is going to want to go out on top with, an exit as dramatic as his entrance to the business and as classic as his career as a whole. The WWF can and has screwed things up like this before. Let's hope they don't this time.
