Welcome to World Building

  • What are these other places like? The lines of culture, religion, and more begin to blur on the borders and then you're in another kind of normal. How does your character feel about these other cultures, etc.? How does your character's town, province, and country feel about these other groups?

This is about as much as most people get into before or as they start writing. From there, it's a matter of continuously pulling these pieces together to make a cohesive whole. You have to consider realistic geography, why vastly different cultures next door to each other have not destroyed one another, why particularly nasty or difficult cultures haven't destroyed themselves, and more. Sometimes this process can be frustrating, but in the end it's highly rewarding.
