Being Slightly Imperfect

I do a lot of web surfing to get ideas for article topics here on Suite 101. Today I hit a page that showed a totally different slant on motherhood. In my Internet travels, I usually find information on how to be a better parent. The advice is well-intentioned, but does every mother listen?

This page I came across relates the true confessions of not-so-perfect mothers. Some of the stories are funny and others are eye-opening. None of these stories relate violence, just a bit of going against the norm.

Before we look at the confessions, I have some minor ones of my own:

Before I had children, I used to love cooking fancy meals. I'd read cookbooks and buy exotic ingredients. Our meals were never a rush, it was quite common for us to eat after 7:00 pm. Now, I fly in the door and slap together any meal that is quick in order to fend off the "I'm Hungry" cries from my kids! There's an added challenge of making last minute substitutions. What I had in the fridge last night may not be there today. The boys fix themselves a snack (I should say meal) after school.

I never was a good housekeeper and it gets worse as the years go on. The kids have got accustomed to pulling out their clean clothes from the laundry basket as they need them. At least I fold the clothes so they won't wrinkle as much! I am forced to empty the baskets when I have to do the next load of laundry.

I'm glad to have a dishwasher. I've always refused to buy a house if it didn't have one. There are still some items that won't fit in the dishwasher like these large plastic glasses I received at the local video store as part of a promotion. Some of my cookware just won't come clean in a dishwasher. When the counter gets filled, that's when I get down to business.

I do get these outstanding jobs done sooner or later. In the "old days" it was quite a bit sooner!

Now that you've heard my confessions, here is a link to The Bad Mommy Club. This is a diverson from reading books or articles telling you what you should be doing. It does; however, reinforce the saying "Nobody's Perfect"!
