The World Wide Web can be a great marketing tool for the small- or home-based business. To succeed, though, you need to do your Website right. What type of information should you provide? You need the stuff that gets people to visit, encourages them to stay and makes them want to come back again and again. Ask yourself: What types of products or services do you offer? Why are your products or services better than the other guy's? How can they help your customers live, work or feel better? Where can your customers go for more information? How can they contact you by phone, fax, e-mail and regular mail? Just answering these questions isn't enough, though. To get people visiting and coming back for more, your Website needs to be more than an online resume or price list. Why not offer visitors a free report, a special discount on their first order or regular updates on new products? A site that provides something of perceived value -- even if it's just entertainment -- will always generate more traffic than one with just the basic facts about your business. Also, make sure all that interesting, useful and important information is presented in a way that makes the right impression on your visitors. Keep your web pages short, punchy and well-organized. Spell-check EVERYTHING (or, better yet, hire a professional copy writer to put together your Web copy). And go easy on the fancy logos and dancing mascots: few things will frustrate potential customers as much as a Website that takes forever to load or crashes their computers. Go To Page: 1
