Help! I Need a Work at Home Job NOW!

© Bonny Albo

I probably receive about 50 emails a week from readers who are desperate to find a work at home job, with subject lines similar to the title of this article. In a perfect world, I would have a host of jobs that I could "give" away to people who needed them, with fantastic wages, great bosses and lots of flexibility.

But, the fact of the matter is, I can't find that job for you. I CAN steer you in the right direction - and often do. But please do not ask me to do the legwork for you - that's up to you.

In order for you to find the work at home employment of your dreams, there are a couple of steps that you should follow. These are the same steps that I personally have followed for the past three years, which have, for me, worked better than I ever expected. I can't guarantee that you'll find a job this way, but hey - it's not costing you anything to try (other than your time). So let's get started!

Step One - Create A Work at Home Resume
The first thing that you'll need is a good resume, saved in Rich Text Format (RTF). Why RTF? Because whoever you send it to can open it and read it in this format, no matter what system they are using. When saving, make sure to save an extra copy in this format by typing ".rtf" and the end of your resume title. Find some fantastic tips by reading this article, which was posted here in July of 1999.

Step Two - Invest Time Into Your Search
Secondly, you are going to need to invest some time into finding work. Expect to make finding a work at home job on the Internet a full time job for a couple of weeks, just like you would if you were looking for a job elsewhere. It's not easy, but it can be more rewarding that you could ever imagine! I would recommend 20 hours a week, but I realize that that's not feasible for most people (especially us parents). DO set a time (once a day, once a week, once a month) to work towards this goal, though - and stick to it!

Step Three - Know Where To Look, And Use It
And last of all, you need to know where on the Internet to look. I know from experience how hard it is to locate good job leads that don't cost you a penny to apply for. This is where I come in! I've compiled my favorite list of places to find work at home jobs here for you. Make a point of checking all of them, one at a time, since many of them post very different jobs in very different ways.
