The Neofeminism Definition - Pt. 2

Are neofeminists defined by wearing make-up? Pink lipstick is everywhere at Sassy Femme (http://www.txdirect.net/~sassyfem/mainpa...). (Note on 9.18.00: this URL is no longer correct. As you know, the web isn't static and URLs change quite often. I am still searching for the right URL. If I don't find it, I will delete this reference. This site may be "out of business." If any reader knows about this, I would appreciate it if you would notify me.) You'll also find "All Things Barbie", where you can read the strange and bizarre things that people did with their Barbies as kids. At this site, you can also get a recipe for Oatmeal Aggression Cookies or read the "Life of a Sassy Femme", an online journal started in March 1996. This site also has about 1,000 links.

If you enjoy the online journal, maybe you are ready for the zines at Womyn & Grrls (http://exo.com/~emily/feminist.html). (Another note: this URL is also incorrect. I will continue hunting.) This site also exhibits striking black and white graphic icons and an excellent collection of woman-power symbols. The zines listing includes 2-Girls, Grrls World, Angry Mothers, New Style American Girlie Revolution, Disgruntled Housewife, Wild Wolf Women of the Web, and Hothead Paisan.

It is not always a soothing sight or site and not for the easily offended. Hothead Paisan might appreciate the people at About-Face (http://www.about-face.org/index.html) who are providing readers a way to fight negative and distorted images of women. They tell us that "it's time to throw our weight around!"

The American prairie past is a place that one would not expect to find a neofeminist, but perhaps neofeminism has none of the expected in its definition. At the Rural Womyn Zone (http://www.wowwomen.com/ruralzone/frontp...), there is a powerful description of a new prairie womyn: "A mother in the middle of the night in the middle of the Kansas prairie, alone with a sick child, surrounded by the wind, knowing there is no medical doctor to come to her aid, cries out in despair and throws herself onto the ground in grief. Her soul is carried away by the howling wind, never to return. Another mother, in the middle of the night in the middle of the Kansas prairie,
