Children love to craft. With this in mind, surprise your little ones by making this wood kit for them to assemble. And so that little fingers are not in harm's way, the kit will be assembled by interlocking each piece. This project can be suitable for children ages five and up.

First of all, you must determine what you'll need for the wood kit you're about to make. A scrollsaw, patterns, spray adhesive, 1/8" fine sanded plywood, 2-sided tape and time are the only requirements. So let's get started!!

Using your favorite graphics program, load the files and print. The images should print to it's original size. To check, part A should measure approximately 8 1/2" long.

  2. On your 1/8" thick plywood, layout the patterns and using the spray adhesive adhere the patterns to your workpiece. Using your scrollsaw, make a square or rectangle shape of each piece. For those pieces requiring two of the same, make another square or rectangle, and using two-sided tape, sandwich the pieces together.

  3. With a drill or drill press, drill a 1/4" diameter hole as indicated on the pattern for parts Y

  4. Begin scrollsawing the outline of each piece. Be sure to cut the slots in each part 1/8" width to allow each to slide into it's corresponding piece.

  5. Lightly sand your shapes.

  6. Now invite your kids to participate in assembling their wood kit. Following the instructions below and on the patterns, interlock each piece until you've formed the 3-dimensional figure. The finished wood project should be 8 1/2" long x 5" high.
