In the articles perceding this month's, the focus has been on what woodcrafting is, tools you can use, the safety of operating your tools, and related terms you may come across during your woodcrafting experiences.
So now we're ready to percede to the next level: Making wooden crafts. You're probably anxious by now to power up that brand new scrollsaw you've recently purchased. Needless to say, you can't wait any longer to try it out. "Right"? "Okay", so some of you have yet to buy one but your coping saw is standing by, waiting to be takened down from off the shelf. You're ready to go!!
Well, guess what? Not everyone who makes woodcrafts uses a coping saw, scrollsaw or sometimes not even an hammer.
Surprise!! Many woodcrafters uses only a glue gun to produce
their creations. And in this article, that's all you're going to need. So keep your coping saw on the shelf for a little while longer while making a very simple woodcraft project.
Many crafters create woodcrafts the easy way by purchasing their raw materials from craft suppliers or hobby shops. And for this article that's how you will produce your first wooden craft. If you have children and would like for them to participate, this is an ideal project to share with them.
This project can be called a "Dolly on a Spoon". For this craft you'll need:
- 1- 10" wooden spoon
- 1- facecloth
- Piece of felt, ribbon and wool
- 1- small flower, pom pom, red pipe cleaner
- 2- small eyes
- 2- Thumb Tack
- Piece of twine.
All of the above supplies can be bought at your local hobby shop.
Now for the instructions:
Fold the facecloth in half, wrap it around the spoon and stick two tacks in the front and back to hold it in place. Gather together the top ends of the facecloth and tie a ribbon around it. Take a piece of red or yellow felt, cut into a shape of an heart and glue to the center of the facecloth. Glue the flower in the middle of the heart.
For the face, make the pipe cleaner (red) into a smile and use it for the mouth. Use a pom pom for the nose and black wool for the hair. Glue the hair and the eyes in place. Make a loop with the twine and glue to the back. And there you have it. Now it's ready to hang on the wall.
