Should you change to an approved brand of levothyroxine? The answer is up to you. Changing brands of levothyroxine should require a doctor's visit and follow-up TSH levels to insure that the change is appropriate for you. If you are feeling well and your laboratory findings are in normal limits, you might choose to maintain the status quo. However, if you are experiencing difficulties, talk to your doctor about trying another brand of replacement. Incidentally, the two approved brands are currently less expensive than the most prescribed brand.
