If there is a diagnosis of cancer or suspicion or if the size of the nodule interferes with swallowing, the doctor may recommend removing some or all of the thyroid gland. This surgery is not without some risk and should be performed only by a skilled surgeon, one who does it frequently.

Thyroid nodules don't go away if you ignore them. Because thyroid cancer is nearly always curable when treated early, it is very important that you consult with your health care provider and find out just what that lump on your throat is and if it does or does not require treatment.
