Monica Seles, Justine Henin and Amelie Mauresmo are the next challengers to the throne and have the experience, the talent and the reputation to take the title. Could a talented youngster such as Iroda Tulyaganova or Elena Dementieva surprise this year? Perhaps a veteran who wants to prove she can hang with the current crop of youngsters, such as Sandrine Testud, Amanda Coetzer Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario? Maybe even former champion Mary Pierce?
