So, who are you betting on for the French?

OK, I think it is onto the men's side of things now. With the results of the Italian Open, and now, the Grand Prix at St Polten, I am 90 percent sure that Marcelo Rios will take home the French Open trophy! (the other 10 percent in case a certain Spaniard can succeed this fortnight). Firstly the Italian Open - the fifth Super 9 event of the year and the third Super 9 event Marcelo Rios has taken home. All he needs now is a Grand Slam title and he's had it all! It seems Petr Korda will NEVER get the #1 ranking. I'm sorry, that is my true opinion. He was convincingly defeated in the first round by last year's French Open quarter finalist, Moroccan Hicham Arazi 62 64. Furthermore, the year hasn't been too great for Top 10 players like Briton Greg Rusedski who was also defeated in the first round by Bohdan Ulirach 75 76 (8), and also for Swede Jonas Bjorkman who was thrashed by last year's French open semifinalist, Belgian Filip Dewulf 62 63. Perhaps we'll have a repeat of the performances of last year's French Open. No, that's a stupid thing to say! Patrick Rafter will invariably get defeated before the semis, with people like Alex Corretja and Galo Blanco (another French Open quarter finalist last year) in his quarter. Poor lad! (at least his draw isn't as slack as at the Australian Open). Add to that the fact that he was again eliminated in the first round at a tournament - at the Italian Open by Dutchman Sjeng Schalken 63 67 (4) 64 and a week later, at the Grand Prix in Austria by Byron Black 63 64. However, Rafter can find some solace in the fact that Corretja isn't having the best of times either, although he's not having the worst of times either. He was surprisingly eliminated in the second round by Moroccan Karim Alami 36 76 (5) 64. Also in Rafter's quarter is Sergi Bruguera, last year's French Open finalist. But he wouldn't have a thing to worry about where Bruguera is concerned. With some of the recent results, I wouldn't be surprised if he was defeated in the first round. Bruguera was once again down and out in the first round of a tournament, this time to Magnus Norman 63 10, before he retired due to a physical ailment. Magnus Norman
