Out of this world

However, both are smart, mentally tough players who both possess the drive, determination and killer instinct to win big. I think up to this point, Elena has been the better player on the tour, having reached three tournament semi finals this year and making her way into the Top 20 for the first time in her career, but that all probably comes about due to the fact that Elena is not bound by the age restriction rules as Jelena is. Their last meeting at New Haven was a straight sets decision which went in favour of Dementieva. At that point, Jelena was struggling with her form post-Wimbledon however since that loss, Jelena has raised her level of play with a good showing at the US Open. It’s a tough ask to pick who will win, on recent form you would have to pick Dementieva who has been on a recent tear, but the home crowd support has lifted Dokic throughout the entire week. Head-to-Head Series: WILLIAMS leads 4-0
Last Meeting: 2000 New Haven (Hard) FL, WILLIAMS d. SELES 6-2 6-4
Three-Set Head-to-Head Series: WILLIAMS leads 1-0

As it is, the winner of this match will be eyeing the gold very closely as their opponent for that gold medal match will be a relatively young player who has not experienced the pressure of playing in a professional tournament final before. The key to Williams’s previous wins over Seles was that she used her powerful groundstrokes to keep Monica on her back foot and to spread her, exploiting Seles’s lack of mobility and fitness. Monica has the groundstrokes to hang with Venus but she doesn’t have anywhere near the foot speed of her
