BRONZE MEDAL MATCH
Jelena Dokic (AUS) versus 3-Monica Seles (USA)
Head-to-Head Series: SELES leads 1-0
Last Meeting: 2000 Italian Open (Clay) QF, SELES d. DOKIC 6-1 3-6 6-3
You just don't know in tennis sometimes - this could have been the gold medal match. Both Seles and Dokic gave their respective semi final opponents tough three set matches which could have gone either way. Instead, they are relegated to play for the bronze and it will be a shame that one has to miss out on a medal. Seles enters as the favourite, but she knows it is not going to be easy against the aggressive Dokic. Jelena is going to try and impose her game on Monica with her trademark hard, flat groundstrokes but it is not going to be easy for her to do. Monica imposes her own powerful game on her opponent and she is usually successful as she has a great ability to take control of the point from the start and to not let it go. Monica had problems returning Venus's serve in the semi finals but Jelena doesn't have nearly the power on the serve that Venus does. Seles will be trying to get the first strike by taking the ball early, attacking Dokic's serve with her powerhouse return and will try to get as many first deliveries with her powerful lefty serve. Dokic is not going to be successful if she is the one caught doing all the running so she has to
