This is a really tough match to call. In my opinion, it is dead 50-50 chance for either girl to win. Sure, Williams has pretty much dominated the rivalry but their matches have always been close. Williams’s form this summer has been much more convincing than Davenport’s but on current form throughout this tournament, Davenport has looked much more consistent than Williams has. The key is who can dictate the points from the outset, and this is usually determined by the first serve percentage. Look for the server to win most of the points on the first serve, and the returner to win most of the points on the second. Who will execute better on the day? Who knows! That’s why the promoters are giving this match top billing. I hate to pick one because it could go either way, but I’ll go with Williams simply for the fact that her serve is more powerful and she utilizes it to great advantage on the big points. Davenport herself is solid on the big points, which is why it is so hard to pick a winner! Maybe Williams because of five previous wins in a row. But maybe Davenport who will come out motivated to finally beat Williams. This is too hard!
