    THE FINAL

    1-MARTINA HINGIS (SUI,1) versus 8-RUXANDRA DRAGOMIR (ROM,33)

    • Head-to-Head Record: HINGIS leads 3-0
    • Last Meeting: 2000 French Open (Clay) 4R, HINGIS d. DRAGOMIR 6-3 0-6 6-1
    • Grasscourt Head-to-Head Record: First meeting on grass
    • Head-to-Head Record in Finals: First meeting in a final
    • Three-Set Head-to-Head Record: HINGIS leads 1-0
Hingis may lead 3-0 in their head-to-head series, but she is not going to take Dragomir lightly at all. They only played a few weeks ago at the French Open and it was quite a match - Dragomir managed to take the second set 6-0, a feat not many people can say they have achieved against Martina Hingis. Although Dragomir's best surface is clay, she is no slouch on grass, being a former champion of this event. Hingis may not be incredibly powerful but she is a great service returner and a deft volleyer, qualities which are always handy on grass. It should be a great match featuring two finesse players as both Martina and Ruxandra possess great hands, but Hingis should enter this match as an overwhelming favourite. This is mainly because of the psychological edge she has of being the #1 player and also having beaten Dragomir three times in a row. More significantly, she is an excellent big match player and is not going to want to relinquish the opportunity to capture her 30th career singles title to a player ranked more than 30 places lower than herself! Then again, I have been known to stick my foot in my mouth, so we will see what happens on the day!
