Her path (a prediction): JANA NOVOTNA (CZE) Summer hardcourt season performances The draw analysis: Things don't look so rosy for the Czech veteran. She has not won a match since Wimbledon, and lacks a lot of confidence and match toughness in her game. After such a sparkling 1998 season, injuries and consequent lack-of-form have plagued Jana this year, and has seen her drop out of the top 10 for the first time in years. Her section features some players who have shown a great deal of improvement this year, namely Silvija Talaja and Anne Kremer. It also features the aggressive veteran Anke Huber, who could be a potential third round opponent, and power hitters Amelie Mauresmo and Mirjana Lucic, who could meet her in the fourth round. It doesn't sound so good for Jana, especially with issues regarding her lack of match play and lack of form as of late. She should be able to get through a couple of rounds earlier in the first week, but she may come across trouble against Anke Huber in the round of 32. I don't like her chances of moving much further, because even if she does get through to the round of 16, she will face even harder hitters like Amelie Mauresmo and Mirjana Lucic. However, Jana has been given a break as some of the main challengers in that section are not playing their best tennis.
