    California Love
What better place is there to be in the summer than in central California, where the sun is perennially shining, the beach sand is golden and the ocean water is crystal clear. You've got to love the nice, hot weather California can give you - it's just a shame I'm down here in chilly Sydney in what is now winter!!

California may be the home of the sun, but it was also home to a number of tennis tournaments on the WTA tour this past fortnight. The TIG Classic at San Diego took place earlier in the fortnight, with the Acura Classic in Los Angeles concluding just a number of days ago. Both tournaments provided scorching fields, with the ranking cut off incredibly high. You know that the field must be no less than scorching when you've got former Grand Slam finalist Anke Huber trying to qualify for a main draw position, which she successfully did at San Diego.

Lindsay Davenport was red hot last summer when she won all three of the Californian hardcourt tournaments after Wimbledon. This year, she has only been simmering at mid-temperatures, as she was unable to repeat the glory of last summer when she was absolutely unstoppable. Going three for three last year in Californian hardcourt tournaments after Wimbledon, she only went one for three this year. It must be said that while she hasn't won a lot of titles in the past three weeks, Lindsay has still played pretty well this summer, of course, repeating her feat from last year was never going to be as easy a task on paper.
