Obviously, Paola has been playing well to reach the final of the Madrid Open. But to defeat Patty Schnyder 2 and love means something is up with Patty - not even a top player can have as easy a time playing Schnyder as Suarez did. But that is what she proved as she routed Schnyder, giving to Schnyder a lack of confidence in her game coming up to the French Open, a tournament she is destined to win in the future.

CRUCIAL TIME FOR: Monica SELES
She hasn't played in a while, but she left the tour with a vengeance, accumulating a seven match (and a fourteen set) winning streak. That set-and-match streak is likely to continue at least up to the quarter finals of the French against Mary Pierce. It will be crucial for her to keep the intensity of her game going if she is going to have a chance to reach the final, as she could be playing some in-form players such as Mary Pierce in the quarters and Lindsay Davenport in the semis. Plus, she has a stack of ranking points to defend, which no doubt she would like to retain from last year. Fortunately for her, that could be very possible, given her own form.

DISAPPOINTING: Patty SCHNYDER
This girl who has the potential to be the best clay courter in the world in the near future, made a shocking exit at the Madrid tournament getting routed by little known Argentinian Paola Suarez. This will not bode her well for the French, especially as she faces confident upstart Corina Morariu in the first round.
