Her main rival:AMELIE MAURSEMO. Both are 19 year old French girls with aggressive groundstrokes and solid all-court games. Heck, even their names sound pretty similar! Of course, Amelie is the more experienced, the more credentialled and the more talented of the two, but no doubt Emilie will give Amelie a run for her money some time in the near future. Needless to say, the pair are going to cause a stir at the upcoming French Open with their patriotic countrymen and women. THE LOWDOWN ON EMILIE
Much is still to be achieved by the young and talented Emilie Loit. Joining the WTA circuit only last year, she is yet to make an indent on the tour the way many of the French women have already done so. But she is getting there. Ranked a solid #65 in the world, Emilie has worked hard to consistently improve on her ranking. The results are yet to show, although she has won three titles on the Challenger circuit. However, the most notable performance in her career so far was her amazing run at the Australian Open, just her third career Grand Slam event, where she made it through to the last 16. Routing the talented yet troubled Croatian upstart Mirjana Lucic 6-2 6-1 in the first round gave her enough confidence to last a couple more matches, including her biggest career victory to date when she dismantled 8th seed and last year's runner-up Conchita Martinez 7-5 6-1 in the third round. Her French rival Amelie Mauresmo proved too tough and too powerful from the baseline for her and she lost to the eventual finalist 6-0 7-5 in the fourth round. Despite this loss, it was clear to the tennis world that France had produced yet another tennis star in Emilie Loit, and while she is yet to make an impact the way French girls Mary Pierce, Nathalie Tauziat, Julie Halard-Decugis, Sandrine Testud, and of course, Amelie Mauresmo have already done, the tennis soothsayers are keeping their eyes peeled for the time when Emilie makes her mark on the tennis world.
