UPSET OF THE FORTNIGHT: Warsaw Second Round - Olga BARABANSCHIKOVA d. 1-Barbara SCHETT 2-6 7-5 6-0
Barbara Schett was the odds-on favourite for the title at Warsaw. Unfortunately it didn't happen for her as dangerous floater Olga Barabanschikova whipped the world #20 in three sets.

CRUCIAL TIME FOR: Conchita MARTINEZ (ESP)
She is currently at a low of #17 - her lowest ranking in years - and she has a huge number of points to defend this coming week in Berlin as defending champion. Without at least reaching the final, Conchita will see her ranking plummet out of the top 20 for the first time in ten years. An unfortunate likelihood, however, as her countryman Carlos Moya said, if you could do it last year, why can't you do it this year?!

DISAPPOINTING: Natasha ZVEREVA (BLR)
Like Conchita, she sits on the edge of the top 20, waiting for a burst of form to nudge her higher in the rankings. She will need to wait a while longer for that burst of form because it doesn't look like it's coming anytime soon. She had a disappointing run at Fed Cup, losing both of her matches to the underdog Czech Republic team, and followed that up with first round losses at Cairo and Rome.
