Some predict that a greater number of schools will offer "abstinence only" programs that teach misinformation and threaten teens' abilities to make responsible decisions when it comes to their sexuality. Adolescents will experiment with sexual intercourse and need access to family planning advice in order to avoid pregnancy and disease, yet conservative politicians tend to restrict the provision of this information.

Other experts fear that the preponderance of anti-choice politicians in power will not only result in the re-criminalization of abortion causing the maternal mortality rate to increase once again, but it will pave the way for a "fetal-police state". This could signify invasions of privacy including the government monitoring of a woman's pregnancy, police investigations of miscarriages, and government intrusions into women's sexuality. (For more on this, visit http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/97may/... .)

Whether the new conservative administration is successful in its drive to restrict women's reproductive and sexual rights, the popular sentiment of the country isn't all that different from when Roe v. Wade was fought many years ago. The next few years could prove pivotal regarding the right to choose. Perhaps abortion rights might finally be established, thereby allowing people the ability to focus more attention and time on preventing abortions through education and greater access to effective contraception.
