Research Breakthrough: Try Exercise To Combat Sexual Dysfunction

The latest findings in sexual response research will be good news to those who exercise and might just inspire those who are less fitness-inclined to take up a regular exercise program.

The current word from many scientists is that women and men who workout regularly have better sex lives both in intensity and quantity. In fact, several sex therapists now prescribe fitness regimens for patients with sexual dysfunctions.

Of course, this information is contrary to what many therapists and doctors formerly suggested. Relaxation and "mood" lighting was often offered as promising techniques to increase a patient's sex drive. Now, however, experts have realized that people who workout have increased bloodflow throughout their bodies, including to the genital area. Exercise also increases testosterone levels which improves sex drive.

Another way to get your blood pumping, your heart pounding, and your autonomic system fired up (all proven ways to increase sexual desire) is to have a good, old-fashioned wrestling session with your partner before making love. This operates on the idea that sex is better after a fight, except that friendly wrestling is much healthier than a hurtful argument.

In researching exercise and sex, clinical psychologists found that some sort of erotic cue was needed either during or immediately after a workout to help many women realize that they were aroused. This could be due to the fact that a majority of women have learned to ignore sexual feeling and arousal and thus aren't aware when their bodies respond in such a way.

The more a woman exercises, however, and becomes attuned to her body, the more sensual she will begin to feel during a workout. A regular fitness program which includes at least three days of aerobic exercise for approximately thirty minutes per session can help an individual to feel more alive, sexually and otherwise.

In addition to this are the added benefits of having a better view of one's body and an improved self-esteem. Knowing you look good can motivate a woman to enjoy her body more and seek ways to show it off. Rather than hiding in a darkened room during lovemaking, she can focus more on sexual sensation and less on how she looks.

The bottom line is that exercise can kick off a better sex life in many different ways. And, remember, the brain is still the most erotic muscle in your body, so be sure to exercise it through sexual cues as well.
