Sylvia's husband was killed suddenly when she was 28. They had two lovely children and had just brought their first home, and furnished it in a style they had both dreamed of. Robert was killed by a drunk driver who had passed out at the wheel of his vehicle. It is now 5 years since his death, and Sylvia has become withdrawn, and becomes increasingly depressed with each anniversary date of his death.
Annett was brutally raped at the age of 19 (10 years ago) by a group of 4 men as she was walking home from a night class at her local community college. The rape resulted in pregnancy which she carried full term because of her feelings about abortion. She gave the child up for adoption at its birth. Annette does not go out alone, and has very few friends, none of which are men. She checks her doors to make sure they are locked many times a day. She was recently fired from her job due to extreme mood swings and angry outbursts.
Sue was molested by her father and older brother from the age of 5 until she was 16. As she began to be asked out on dates, her father forbid her from going, and she began to shy away from all boys at school. During her 20s it has become impossible to maintain a relationship with a man once sex comes into question. She has not married, and is also very withdrawn and has few friends.
Angie witnessed a mass shooting at her high school, where 2 of her best girlfriends were killed right in front of her. Her life was spared because she crawled under her chair as soon as she started hearing the guns going off, and the screaming. Today Angie suffers survivors guilt, wondering why her life was spared and but her 2 friend's were not. She has severe depression, and is unable to concentrate on her schoolwork.
Lisa was married to Tom at age 21. About one month after their wedding Tom began to physically abuse her. With this came emotional abuse, when he was drinking he would come home, wake up, and rape her. The rapes resulted in 3 of her 5 pregnancies, one of which she miscarried due to his throwing her to the ground and kicking her. They are still together to this day. Lisa has no social life outside her home, has frequent nightmares, and suffers with severe depression.
