The stage is set for the first Women's Professional Football League championship. It will be held on January 20, 2001, in Houston. The Houston Energy defeated the Minnesota Vixens last month to advance to the championship, and the New England Storm earned an exciting victory over the Daytona Beach Barracudas last week.

The Storm edged out a 29-26 overtime win with a field goal by Sarah Moon. New England started off with the game's first touchdown. Quarterback Karolyn Domini found receiver Moon on a 5-yard pass for the touchdown. The Barracudas answered with four minutes remaining in the first half. Receiver Tango McCall caught a 10-yard pass from quarterback Kahs Sky-Deer for the touchdown to tie it up.

Daytona Beach came out of the halftime fired up as they went on a scoring run. Sky-Deer hit receiver Diana Neal with a 10-yard pass for a touchdown. Later, Sky-Deer threw a 79-yard pass to Rocky Brown for another touchdown. New England finally stopped their scoring draught in the fourth quarter when running back Christina Gibbons rushed for 10 yards and the touchdown. On Daytona's next possession, Moon intercepted Sky-Deer's pass on the New England 20-yard line. The Storm advanced the ball and on 4th and 14, Domini threw for a touchdown.

The turnovers continued for Daytona Beach as they fumbled with only 2:42 remaining in regulation. The Storm recovered the fumble on their 25-yard line. Domini and Moon connected once again. On 4th and 25, Moon ran for 74 yards to take the lead. McCall did not give up for her Barracudas. She ran the kick off to the 47-yard line and a New England personal foul moved the ball to the 32-yard line. McCall ran into New England's endzone to tie it up. New England's defense stepped up on the extra point attempt to block the field goal, which sent the game into overtime.

Defense dominated in the overtime period and the only points scored were by Sarah Moon whose field goal won the game for New England. The Storm will head to Houston on January 20 for the WPFL championship. For more information on the league and the championship game, visit www.womensprofootball.com.
