The Women's Professional Football League's (WPFL) playoffs are underway and one team has already advanced to the league's first championship game.

The Houston Energy handed the Minnesota Vixens its first loss of the season, 35-14, to win the American Conference title and advance to the League Championship. The Energy, who are the West Division champs, defeated the Colorado Valkyries 13-0 in the American Conference Wildcard game to earn the spot against the Vixens. In the victory against the Vixens, Houston quarterback Donna Vicknair found wide receiver Shelley Squires for a 35 and a 40-yard touchdown and rushed in a touchdown herself. Fullback Monique Howard tallied the fourth Energy touchdown on a 31-yard run. The Energy will know their opponent in the championship game after the New England Storm face the Daytona Beach Barracudas on January 6.

Daytona Beach is the league's only undefeated team and the Storm (5-2) have a challenge ahead of them. The winner will meet Houston on January 13 in Daytona Beach for the championship.
