The Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) announced the Orlando franchise will be moving to North Carolina for the inaugrual season.

The owners of the Orlanda team could not secure a stadium by the November 1 deadline and therfore, the team will play in North Carolina. The tentative stadium is Fetzer Field on the University of North Carolina campus where the Tarheels play their games.

Acting President of the WUSA, Lee Burke, said Orlando is still high on the expansion list for the league. Also, beginning in 2002, a soccer-specific complex will be completed in Orlando which will allow Orlando to have a WUSA team.

U.S. National Team members Tiffeny Roberts and Danielle Fotopolous, who were allocated to the Orlando team, will now play in North Carolina. Recently, former captain of the National Team Carla Overbeck has decided to play in the league and will play for the new North Carolina team. Originally, Michelle Akers was scheduled to play for the Orlando team but has decided to miss the 2001 season in order to recover from another shoulder surgery.
