WUSA Foreign Player Allocation Draft Results

On October 30, the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) held its first-ever Foreign Player Allocation Draft. 16 of the world's top soccer players participated and were split into pairs. The pairings will allow the international players to have a familiar face with them as they adjust to playing in the U.S.

The order of the draft was voted upon by the eight teams based upon the strength of the founding player allocation for each team.

Orlando had the first pick and selected the Norwegian pair of Bente Nordby and Hege Riise. Doris Fitschen of Germany and England's Kelly Smith went to Philadelphia in the second selection. The Bay Area team opted for Katia and Sissi of Brazil. The Norwegian team of Ann Kristin Aarones andGro Espeseth went to New York. Atlanta selected Canadian Charmaine Hooper and Homare Sawa of Japan. The German duo of Maren Meinert and Bettina Wiegmann are heading off to Boston. The D.C. team adds Pretinha and Roseli to their rosters. Finally, Kristin Bengttson and Ulrika Karlsson of Sweden will play for the San Diego team.

Each WUSA roster now has five players and they are some of the top players in the world. Team names will be announced shortly and the league plans to fill out the rosters in early December with a training camp and draft of 200 athletes.
