Women who make the choice to stay at home full time and raise a family, are in no way turning their back to the feminist movement or limiting their choices. In fact, they are making a choice which is the best for them. That's what this whole push for equality is about. Women need to feel that they have the freedom to make whatever choice makes them happy. We shouldn't feel trapped in a role because that is what society thinks is best for us. When a woman makes the conscious choice to stay home with her children, she's exercising her freedom of choice. This is something that women didn't have for a long time.
Motherhood isn't an easy role for any woman. It's a lifelong committment that is something special for each woman who takes it on. This also means that each woman will dearly hold onto her own personal parenting philosophies. You can value your choices in mothering styles without putting down those of others. The Mommy Wars is an unfortunate spillover from the movement for more choices for women. It is something that we don't need and is less than productive for women and their children. Instead of putting all of that energy into arguing about how a woman should be a mother, we should put that energy into our children so that they can be sure to have a future filled with opportunities and choices.
