Bringing Home The Bacon

For a while now, I've been living on my own and taking care of myself. My parents have helped me along the way when I've hit bumpy parts in the road. Other than that, its just been me.

Not too long ago, the idea of a woman living on her own and supporting herself seemed ludicrous. Women either married and had their husbands support them financially, or they stayed with their families. Rarely did you find a woman buying everything for herself and living how she wanted to.

Today, its just as common to see a single woman living on her own as it is to see a man doing the same thing. Women may not be proportionally represented in the business world, however they are finding some sort of way to make a living and be independent. This may seem like a little thing, but in reality, it's a big step towards equality.

It's a big step because it represents all of the little steps women have been making along the road to equality. Women have the right to vote. Women can own their own property. Women are accepted in the workplace (wherever that place may be). Women are able to build up their own solid credit history, without relying on their husbands to do it.

Without any of those things, women wouldn't be able to support themselves.

So when I sit back on my couch, with my TV remote in hand and my dinner cooking in my oven ... I can look around my apartment and be thankful for the fact that I'm able to live how I do. I don't have to depend on a husband for financial support. I can enjoy my freedom and make the choices I want to for myself.
