We've read about Geeky Girls and how women are quickly moving into the field of technology. No longer are computers and electronic toys just for the boys, girls are proving that they have the brains to be geeks too.
Santa is a smart man and this past Christmas, he made me a very happy geek girl. Under the tree, covered in LOTS of wrapping paper, was a beautiful new computer. (Talk about a geeky gift dream come true!) Faster than my current computer and complete with all the bells and whistles that I would ever want, this gift has succeeded in sucking up all of my free time. This isn't to say that I spent New Years Eve typing away at my computer waiting for the Y2K crash to happen. But I have spent a large amount of time playing with the computer and learning how things work. I've spent hours moving files from one computer to another. This has given me a new problem to find a solution for. After all, floppy disks are only so big and some files are just too large to save things on and move to another computer. So I've had to do some creative transportating of files. If you are looking for a good way to backup your files offsite, I highly suggest trying out @Backup. I was introduced to the site from some other Suite101 editors and have loved it ever since. Not only does it do an efficent job of backing up all my important files, but it was also great when it came time to move all those files from one computer to another. Life became a little congested in the home office when I had two computers working and two phone lines running to get all the data in the right place, but things are beginning to calm down. 5 days later, all the files have been successfully moved to the new computer and my problem now is where to put the old computer. Of course, to be a true geek means that I have to keep both computers working and have them networked into their own little system. One day, that will happen. For now, we'll wait till I have more desk space.
