The Silver Lining

This article is just one of many for the Suite101.com Thanksgiving event.

I am thankful to be part of a minority group who is discriminated against - OH YES I AM!

Thanksgiving is a time to be truly thankful for everything you have. And I do mean EVERYTHING. Even the bad things in life have some silver lining that we all need to be aware of. Think I can't find a positive spin on the negative aspects of being a woman? Well, watch me try!

I am thankful that I have a menstrual cycle, it means I can bring life into this world.

I am thankful to have my breasts squeezed by a hard, metal examination tool, it means we have the technology to stop breast cancer before it kills.

I am thankful that men judge me on the size of my breasts and not the size of my brain, it means I know more than they do about my ability. It also means that I can surprise them and outwit them when they least expect it.

I am thankful that we must designate a month out of the year to ensure that children are educated about Women's History, it means we have made history that should be passed on to future generations.

I am thankful that I have to work twice as hard for half the pay of a man, it means I'm dedicated and won't give up.

I am thankful men feel obligated to open doors for me, it means I am the one to make a grand entrance into a room.

I am thankful for PMS; it gives me an excuse to be moody once a month.

I am thankful that people expect me to be a homemaker while I am also working a full time job, it means that I am extremely skillful and able to manage multiple tasks at once.

I am thankful for the pain and agony of childbirth, it means I am able to watch my child grow up and be part of this wonderful world. It also means I have strength beyond my size, so I will exceed men's expectations.

I am thankful for needing to work harder to raise money for the programs I want to participate in, it teaches me how to manage money and good fundraising skills.

I am thankful that I'm expected to cry at the littlest of things, it means that I am comfortable with showing my emotions.

Can you think of any other positive spins to the negative side of being a woman? Start posting them to the discussion and lets see how many we can come up with!
