Most people would agree that boys and girls are different. Since the day that we first learned who had what, the thought that boys and girls were the same seemed like a distant fantasy.
When girls were little, most were brought up to be girls. They played with their dolls, made sure they didn't get too dirty and were always polite. Whereas the boys were the ones who got dirty and were active. In fact, studies of elementary classrooms show that teachers push male students to excel more often then they push female students. Amazingly enough, this happens mainly because teachers just expect girls to do better. We were all raised according to our sex. Our society has it's own limitations for each gender. As people in that society, it's natural that we not only notice those limitations, but then pass them onto our children. That's too bad. If we were all raised equally, we would see that everyone has the same basic capabilities. Of course, there are some differences that just don't change but in general we would be more the same than we are now. Perhaps there wouldn't be a need for topics like "Women's Issues." Women wouldn't feel the need to work for equal rights and treatment. People wouldn't judge on the basis of gender, but on individual's ability and talent. Sorta like in that "perfect world" some of us dream of. But it's not as far away as we think. After all, great accomplishments were once dreams. If more parents raised their children as children, without imposing any of society's gender boundaries on them, who knows what could happen? Society doesn't change overnight but it's clear that it does change. We can raise children who see the world as their oyster, no matter if they are male or female.
