You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen... Comet and Cupid and Doner and Blitzen... But do you recall, the most famous reindeer of all?

No, not Rudolph.

This reindeer was shuned from reindeer games even before poor old Rudolph. I'm talking about Rudolphine - the original reindeer castaway. You probably have never heard of Rudolphine. She wasn't as famous as her red-nosed brother, Rudolph. Although she was a smart and strong reindeer, her pictures aren't in any of the history books and little children don't grow up and learn any songs about her. So let me tell you her story.

Rudolphine was like most other reindeer. She was a little bit smaller, and her reindeer body grew a little bit differently than the reindeer in Santa's sleigh, but other than that, she was just like those sleigh boys. It also seemed like Rudolphine could be more emotional at times. But then, that was one of her better qualities. Even though she seemed to cry easily, she was also very aware of the emotions of other reindeers. She would also think about others before worrying about herself.

One day, Rudolphine got up the courage to ask Santa if she could help drive his sleigh. It wasn't Chistmas Eve and she figured that Santa would let her go on one of their local rides to the North Pole 7-Eleven. Santa, being the moderate that he is and wanting to make Rudolphine happy, wrestled with the decision to let Rudolphine join the team for the night. He thought and thought. Santa knew that if he let her help drive the sleigh, then some of the normal reindeer might be upset. They had never had a girl reindeer on the team and no one really thought that reindeers like Rudolphine had strength to help drive a sleigh.

So help pass along the story of Rudolphine! Maybe we'll started a Rudolphine History Month. After all, the only way to stop history from repeating itself is to arm yourself with the knowledge and its mistakes.
