It's that time of year again. A time when families and friends enjoy their time together and everyone seems to be in a more festive mood than the rest of the year. December also can mean lots of celebrating at holiday parties. Sometimes it can seem like every time you open the mailbox, there is another invitation to a holiday party. Parties and celebrations are supposed to be fun events that let people enjoy an entertaining night with each other. Unfortunately, parties can also mean problems like drunk driving, date rape, and theft. As depressing or upsetting as those things may sound, they are also very realistic occurrences that people shouldn't ignore. Whether it is the neighborhood tree trimming party, the annual office holiday party, or any other holiday party, there are certain things that every woman should keep in mind while celebrating. Of course, if you are at something like a family gathering, you may not have to have the same worries. However, it's always best to be aware of the dangers that are out there, then to be ignorant of them. Here are a few tips to keep in mind so that you can be sure to have an enjoyable and safe holiday party. 1. Have a designated driver. If you look at the statistics, the holidays can be the biggest time of the year for drunk driving accidents. Everyon is happy and enjoying themselves, but they aren't paying attention to how much alcohol is being consumed. If you are going to a number of parties, then it is always possible to rotate who is the designated driver. Also, if you are hosting a party then you do have some responsibility to make sure your guests make it home safe. Try to provide a variety of beverages, including non-alcoholic alternatives. Perhaps even set up a "mock-tail" bar, with creative non-alcoholic mixed drinks. This way, those who choose not to drink don't have to feel like they are missing out on anything. Some people may feel like not drinking will just make the party less enjoyable. That may be true, but then death or paralysis from a drunk driving accident isn't fun at all. 2. Safety in numbers. For you single women out there, it isn't the best idea to go to large parties by yourself. This doesn't mean that you have to find the perfect date for each party you are going to. However, the buddy system can be a good way to stay safe during a party. Go with a friend and decide ahead of time what your plans are for the night. If one of you hopes to find "Mr. Right-For-Tonight" at the party, then the other should be aware of this. You can even go so far as to make signals that will be used for things like "Get me away from this guy, now!", or "Let's go, this party sucks!", or "Don't try the fruit cake!"
