Today, there are more women in the business world so it makes sense that there would be more women traveling on business. More women are also going on vacations to exotic locations. All too often, these women are going across the world (or country) alone and putting themselves at risk.

Unfortunately, when muggers or other such criminals look for their next victim, they often look for women. Especially women who are alone. When traveling, women are at an even greater risk of being hurt since they are most likely busy with the travel plans and not paying as close attention to their surroundings.

When traveling on your own, keep these things in mind.

1. Always pay attention to what is going on. If you are site-seeing, enjoy the scenery but don't get so lost in it that a mugger could easily walk up and pull something out of your purse. Its best to use a fanny pack to hold your valuables. This makes it harder for muggers to grab off of your body.

2. Let someone back at home know your full itinerary. If something happens to you while you are gone (and alone) no one will notice unless they expect you to be back home at a certain time. If there are any changes to your plans, let that person know.

Whether you are traveling for business or for pleasure, your safety is something that you should never take for granted. Enjoy your vacation or work hard on your business trip, but never forget to be alert to what is happening around you. It may just end up being the difference between an enjoyable trip and one you want to forget.
