Finally, the doctor came in and looked over all the test results and said, "Well, there doesn't appear to be any damage to your heart. We can't be positive, but we think you might have had a mild heart attack and your blood pressure is a little high on the diastolic side. I'm going to give you some medication for blood pressure and if you have any more symptoms, see a doctor right away."
As it turned out, that was only the first of five trips to hospitals for suspected heart attack. The third and fifth times resulted in heart catheterizations, ultrasounds and various blood tests, all which came back as inconclusive. As a result, I have had to take numerous kinds of medication in unsuccessful attempts to regulate my blood pressure and the angina. To date, none of the medication has worked very well.
Whether it was heart attacks or not, it's a very frightening experience to feel your heart race and pound, while your head swirls with pain and pressure. Suddenly waking up out of a sound sleep, gasping for air is not my idea of fun either! I've finally had to learn to concentrate and control my actions and my emotions when that happens. The impending feeling of panic at not being able to breathe threatens to overtake you and throw you into a grip of fear and terror which threatens your very existence.
