A New Location...
We were there for two years during which time I had several bronchitis attacks and pneumonia. I also began to suffer from remittent muscle soreness, pain and fatigue. In 1979, we moved once again. This time to California, with a new husband I'd met in Utah. (Which is part of another chapter in another soon to be published book, MUCH MARRIED, ONCE LOVED.) This husband was into health foods, proper nutrition and exercise and insisted on a strict regimen for the whole family. I tried repeatedly to exercise, but after every session, I would end up ill for several days. Finally, I just refused to keep trying, much to his chagrin and insulting ridicule. The Attack Continues... While in California all the previous symptoms began to escalate. I started having severe pain and cramping after meals, along with occasional nausea, which would be followed by diarrhea. During this time, I would occasionally be overcome by waves of heat and sweating, followed by severe weakness and fainting spells. I never knew when it would hit me. Finally, a particularly uncompromising attack happened while I was shopping and a squad took me to an emergency room. After several tests, the doctor said he wasn't totally sure, but he thought it was caused by my pancreas. He said there was nothing that could be done except to follow a strict diet and take pain medication which made me feel groggy all the time. I stayed on the diet for several months, even though the symptoms continued, but to a lesser degree. The pain medication continued to make me feel dopey, a feeling I just couldn't see myself living with day after day, and I began to do research into natural remedies to find alternatives to the chemicals. I located something called Pancreatin (sold in Health Food stores) and began taking it with meals. I have taken this natural remedy since that time and as long as I continue to take it, I don't have those particular problems with cramping and diarrhea. Periodically I haven't been able to afford it, and after a few weeks time, or after eating too much sugar or fat, I end up with the severe pain and nausea once again. If I take Pancreatin when an attack comes on, the symptoms ease up and disappear. Go To Page: 1 2
