One reason the ill effects of silicone may be so well hidden is the billions of dollars made by the chemical manufacturers of these potentially poisonous implants, and by the surgeons who implant them. Add to this the billions all the other various doctors stand to make by the repeated treatment of those affected and it's no wonder no one wants to admit to the damage these devises are capable of.
In JAMA, an article titled, "Atypical chest pain syndrome in patients with breast implants," by Lee B. Lu concludes, "... silicone breast implants may cause an atypical chest pain syndrome, probably due to local inflammatory reactions and neuroma formation."
Dr. Frank B. Vasey, in the book THE SILICONE BREAST IMPLANT CONTROVERSY, tells how he was "alerted in the mid-1980's to the possibility that immune response to silicone breast implants could cause rheumatic disease. His opinion was influenced by specific reports from a handful of other rheumatologists, as well as daily interactions with Luis Espinoza, M.D., at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. By 1989, Dr. Vasey became convinced that the relationship between silicone and disease had been ignored by industry and government, as well as by the medical community. According to research, here is a list of the most common symptoms of silicone disease: Chronic fatigue Low-grade fever Joint pain & swelling Night sweats Inflammation/muscle pain Memory Loss (myalgia) Rashes Swollen lymph nodes Headache Dry eyes and mouth Sinus irritation (interstitial cystitis) Skin tightening (frequent urination) Decreased sex drive Lung problems Depression (chronic cough) Suicidal thoughts (shortness of breath) Chest pain (pulmonary fibrosis) Numbness (recurrent pneumonia) Altered sensation Up to now, only favorable reports have been reported and seem to have been sponsored by the chemical companies. The huge sums of money spent on lobbying and public relations seem to have succeeded in covering up what so many believe to be the truth. There are more than 450 studies available by experts, which are CONTRARY to the findings of these multi-million dollar companies and much information can be found on the Internet. In spite of some companies efforts at subterfuge and secrecy, many damaging facts have come out which have resulted in juries awarding large settlements to women who have successfully taken them to court. The first of these was in 1984, when after a four week trial, the jury awarded Maria Stern a $1.7 million verdict for the damage caused by her leaking Dow Corning silicone implants. Go To Page: 1 2
