KELP: (Glandular health.) Sea kelp is by far more abundant in iodine than any land plant. Iodine is essential to thyroid health, vitamin E utilization, metabolic efficiency and resistance to bacterial infection. Norwegian kelp contains many other essential trace elements and is a nutritional powerhouse. It contains chromium, zinc, iron, potassium, copper, sulphur, silver and tin, silicon, magnesium, manganese and more. These nutrients concentrate mainly in the glands of the endocrine system. The proper functioning of this system of glands is absolutely necessary for optimum health. Besides the numerous minerals and vitamins which Norwegian kelp contains, it is very rich in about 20 different amino acids. Without essential amino acids on a daily basis, the body begins to die. Kelp also meets the needs of non-essential amino acids. A great way to get the needed nutrients provided in kelp is by using granulated kelp instead of table salt or black pepper. This is a much healthier choice. In powdered form, kelp has a remarkable ability to stop bleeding. Just sprinkle on the wound.

LICORICE: (Adrenal exhaustion, hypoglycemia, and chronic fatigue syndrome.) Four capsules a day of licorice root accompanied by three capsules of dandelion root, or as a tea, two cups daily with meals is good for the aforementioned conditions. Licorice root has also been proved effective in treatment of duodenal ulcers, with two capsules per meal as the dosage. This useful herb has also been used with success for decreasing fatigue, confusion and anxiety.

MILK THISTLE: (Liver disease.) Silbyum marianum is the substance found in milk thistle and contains silymarin which has proven to be a great liver protectant. According to a German pharmacologist, G. Vogel, "the only plant product which has an anti-hepatoxic action in the true sense of the word is the seed of the milk thistle." The most potent known liver poisons are amatoxins, phalloidient and amanitine. Silymarin from the seeds of milk thistle prevents these deadly compounds from entering the liver cells. This action makes milk thistle a very great blessing in the treatment of alcohol abuse and as a preventative against the ravages of increased synthetic drugs and chemicals in use today. Three capsules twice a day, on an empty stomach and taken with tomato or V-8 juice, is a good regimen to follow. This just goes to show that you can't judge a plant by its looks or apparent reputation!
