I have decided to suspend the continuation of the series of articles on Post-Surgical Hallucinations. Although I've gotten limited response to my personal email address, overall response does not warrant additional articles at this time. Even though this is a very serious side effect of major surgery which most people are not aware of, apparently people do not want to know about it.
Having experienced these terrifying and disrupting delusions myself, I know, after the fact, that had I been told about this possibility before my surgery, my family and myself would have been much better prepared to handle this difficult and terrifying time. I am preparing a book based on my experience and using these articles called, From HALLUCINATION to HALLELUJAH. If you wish to know more about the possibility of hallucinations and delirium as a result of a reaction to anesthesia and medicinal drugs, you can contact me personally at: kathernwelsh@columbus.rr.com. I underwent three major surgeries in the past two years, and I have suffered with increasing pain and a debilitating physical condition. I have been unable to obtain reasonable relief, and after numerous tests and doctors with no diagnosis I became increasingly depressed. The depression and pain resulted in sleep deprivation and the doctors finally prescribed antidepressants and suggested that I see a psychiatrist for a possible "brain chemical imbalance." I was hurt, angry and nearly desperate! I knew, as did my husband, that what I was experiencing was physical, not mental. I've always been a very active person with many interests and hobbies. Now I was unable to even walk across the room without getting out of breath and was not able to do anything except lie on the couch all day. This was not me, and it was not "in my head!" Or was it? Finally, I took it upon myself to search the Internet for possible solutions to my declining physical condition and found the Net to be a truly incredible resource. I was able to use my accumulated information, along with previous test results and my symptoms, to locate a doctor in California. Dr. Martin T. Jensen is an International Brain Chemistry Expert, and I was able to have some consultations with him. His findings were that I met the criteria for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Panic Attacks, severe Insomnia, A.D.D. and Fibromyalgia. He felt these diseases were caused by brain chemical imbalances and after trying a series of various drugs, I improved some, but not enough.
