As they were berating him in no uncertain terms, he was trying to get them to understand that he'd had to do God's will first and foremost, and he was certain he had done what the Lord had wanted. Lori slowly began to understand the reason he'd blown the whole thing by exposing it, but Darla just couldn't.
Sonny was emotionally spent and he gave me a quick kiss, assured me he loved me and left through the back of the theater just as two men began pounding on the front door and threatening to "get him."
Both girls kissed me, collected their children and left when the nurses came to take me back to my room. I was totally drained and extremely concerned for Sonny's safety.
I heard voices coming from the hall. Although they spoke in whispers, every once in a while I was sure I heard my name mentioned along with the number 306.
I wonder what's going to happen now, I thought, feeling apprehension rise in my chest. Something weird was going on and it had to do with me...but I couldn't figure out what it was.
I didn't have long to wait. A nurse was soon in my room, carrying a syringe full of fluid and as she emptied it into my IV tube, I asked what it was for.
"Just a little sedative, dear. You need to get some rest. The doctor said you had a very emotional and physically draining evening."
"But I want to see my husband..." I tried to say, but I was swirled quickly into unconsciousness.
When I came to, I don't know how much later, I could tell the room was different. No use asking though, I thought, they'd just say, "You're in your bed in room 306, no matter where you think you are!"
This room was really different. It seemed as though it had no door. Oh, there was a doorway, but no door to close. I could see clearly out into the hall and into the nurse's station. I still had a "keeper" and she just smiled at me and went back to her book.
