After the nurses left, Judy brought me a pillow and a blanket and told me I could lie down on the couch and sleep there. She locked the door and put the key into her pocket.

"I'm going to get ready for bed," she said, "you should try to get some rest too! You've had an awfully busy day."

"May I use the restroom?" I asked her.

"It's the first door at the top of the stairs on the right, ... but don't open any of the other doors." She followed me up the stairs and then headed towards a room on the other side of the hallway. "I'll be here in my bedroom if you need anything."
