In the last few hundred years, the use of herbs and various methods of ancient, natural treatments are becoming validated, re-evaluated and more commonly used. As early as 3000 B.C. ancient cultures in China, Babylon, Egypt and India began recording their knowledge and uses of medicinal plants. Before that time the medical practices and healing power of herbal plants were handed down verbally from generation to generation.
In this article, you'll find a few of the most common ailments of our present age and herbal treatments which have proven very effective. ACNE is a major concern of the modern teenager. Before turning to prescribed drugs and before the condition reaches severe proportions, try natural medicinal applications of aloe, the easiest natural ointment to obtain. Having your own aloe plant or plants, insures a quick, easy to get emergency treatment for acne, as well as burns, cuts, abrasions and other small emergencies no home can escape. Just break a leaf and apply the gel from inside to a freshly washed face, or to the injury. SUNBURN and BURNS respond well to this fabulous gel with 2 drops of lavender essential oil applied for 15-20 minutes. COLDS may be helped by several cups daily of lemon balm and peppermint tea. Add a dash of ginger to induce sweating or alleviate chills. DIARRHEA can be eased by drinking a very strong tea of 1/2 cup blackberry leaves in 1 1/2-cups water. Steep 10 minutes and strain. I like to add honey to any tea I drink! A compress of rosemary leaf tea aids in relieving HEADACHES. That is, if you can spare 10-30 minutes to lie down! That's the hardest part of this treatment! SINUS CONGESTION seems to be affecting people in greater numbers this year. Pour 2-cups boiling water over 1-tablespoon fresh sage leaves, cover and steep 20 minutes. (Steep is to allow herbs to set in hot boiled water, not boiling.) Strain and drink as tea or apply a compress to the head. Bothered by recurring COLD SORES? L-Lysine is remarkable! Usually one capsule a day will keep this pest from returning. My husband uses it and says he'd be carrying around coldsores all the time if he didn't! That's true! Licorice root is a mild and pleasant laxative for CONSTIPATION. Chew root as desired or make a tea of 1-teaspoon root in 1-cup water and drink 3 times a day. Rose hip tea is a mild laxative also.
