5,4,3,2,1...Happy New Year! It is the beginning of a new year and century, and like all the other new year's in your life they begin with resolutions. Some of the popular ones are: to quit smoking; lose weight; save more money; and be a better person. This is all good, but what about getting your spiritual self together. It's probably the easiest resolution to make and keep...successfully.
Interested, then begin by using the 5,000-year-old Chinese art of feng shui. Feng shui contends that health, prosperity and well-being can be influenced by the way your living space is arranged.
Walk into your home as if you were the universal life-force energy. Can you navigate freely from room to room, or are you forced to dodge that heirloom ottoman a relative gave left you or hurdle thatbundle of everyday detritus piling up on the bottom stair? Ch'i wants neither to hurdle nor dodge, but to
flow smoothly, imparting its positive energy throughout the house. Eliminate that clutter, clear that path, and you'll soon feel the difference.
Locate the health center of your house by standing at the front door and dividing the left side of the house into thirds. "Health" is in the center, between the "Wealth" and "Knowledge" sectors. Place a potted plant there and help it to thrive. Reposition your bed. Optimum feng shui (pronounced FUNG-schway) is achieved if the bed is positioned in such a way that the person in it can see anybody entering the room, without having to crane his or her head. The headboard should actually touch the wall. The bed should not be placed against the window, since that allows ch'i to escape. Some practitioners suggest the head of the bed point north.
After that has been achieved, fix something. Does a door creak, a faucet drip, a window stick? Repairing these won't just increase your home's resale value, but will actually help dispel negative ch'i.
When moving into a new home or apartment, most people get the furniture positioned about ninety-five percent right when moving in. A lucky few get it 100 percent right. For the rest of us, there's a feng-shui consultants who'll come to your new place with their mirror, crystal and wind-chimes remedies. They'll
want to attract more light with crystals into your "Family" sector. Or they'll want to place a mirror at the stove so the cook can see who enters the room, because, as the theory goes, the quality of the food is affected when the cook is startled.
