The Oscars of 2005

Remember when the Oscars used to be fun? Remember Cher and her Rocky Mountain spiked hair? Remember the streaker that surprised David Niven? Remember Richard Gere freaking out the audience by asking fellow actors to "think to Tibet?" No? Well I do and I want my tacky Oscars back!!!! Actually, the Oscars wasn't too bad. I liked Chris Rock, which means everyone else is going to hate him. Every time I've liked an Oscar host the rest of the world wants to have them burned at the stake. I liked Whoopi, David Letterman and Steve Martin and everyone else acted like they had killed a small baby on stage. As much as I really liked Chris Rock, it is pointless to have him if they aren't going to let him be himself. He looked great and he was funny, but nowhere near what he could have been. If he had been given free reign over his material then nobody would have been safe and it would have been the best show ever. But I can understand why he took the job, since it is a huge coup for any comedian. Chris Rock did the best he could and he should have been given credit for that.

I realize my article is supposed to be about the fashion of the Oscars, but what can I say? Everyone looked so darn pretty. Apparently comfort was the theme of the night. Many quotes were taken from the ladies that night and they all mentioned "comfortable" with the word "classic" being a close second. I don't think there was one misstep in the women's department at all. I guess Johnny Depp was probably considered the "craziest outfit" since his tux was black and blue. I thought he looked cute, like he was ready to go to his prom. He also still had his gold teeth in because he is filming "Pirates 2" which I cannot wait for. So I liked him for just being him. Cate Blanchett, as always, was my favorite. She is just so damned elegant! She had on a yellow dress with a maroon wrap, which are colors that are not easy to pull off, but I thought she looked incredible. Kate Winslet was a close second in a gorgeous periwinkle dress and Rene Zellweger had on a lovely strapless red gown with a Morticia Adams-esque skirt. I couldn't figure out how she walked around in the skirt like that. For pictures of all these lovely ladies just go to eonline.com or oscar.com where every dress is discussed to the most minute detail.
