Things To Read
This is an incredibly inspirational collection of sports-related writings. There are articles from Read Magazine, (Hoop Dreams and Girls); one entitled Tennessee Lady Vol Basketball by Pat Summit, outlining the Definite Dozen; My Top Ten Ways To Tell If You Love Basketball by T. Lynn; What Kind Of Athlete by Dick DeVenzio; The Little Girl I Coached, by Michael L. Smeriglio; and so much more. There are poems, and short pieces and everything you could want to lift up your spirits and motivate you.
Build A Better Player
Patti has three great topics for this page. In the first article, Dick DeVenzio outlines Attitude, Criticism, and Effort. He just doesn't tell you to have a good attitude, to accept criticism, and put in effort either. He outlines specific things for you to do, such as visualizing yourself being the player you want to be under all circumstances. It is very cut and dry, with little room for misunderstanding. In the next article, Dick writes about Some Thoughts on Summer Camp. He outlines the purpose of one-on-one boxing, and how he can't figure out why more kids don't do it. He also talks about picking up loose balls. In the last one, Dick outlines an entire workout for players who want to stay in shape during the season. This is really great; he has some drills and workouts that will bring your game up.
Coaches Corner
The coaches corner discusses a lot of the ethical aspects of coaching, like Etiquette and Everytime Reinforcement. It talks about playing time, and how coaches should react to different situations. It talks about not blaming the best on your team for everything, and even an article about players suing their coaches for not training them well enough.
