Near the end of the first half the East pulled within 31-29, but a jumper by Yolanda Griffith sparked a 12-0 run by the West to end the half at 43-29.

Despite much media attention and speculation, nobody dunked during the game. The opportunity wasn't there, players said, so they didn't try. Lisa Leslie Dunked during warmups but didn't receive much attention for it. "I was pretty surprised no one noticed because they weren't paying attention," Leslie told WNBA.com. "I dunked. It was a good one, wasn't it? If Yolanda and I were to switch spots when she had the breakaway layup, I could have done it. "

Dunking wasn't missed much though. This game had better defense than most All-Star games; even the coaches were impressed. "Our defense was about 300 percent better than I ever dreamed it would be in an All-Star game," said West coach Van Chancellor. "We were switching on screens. We looked like we had been working on defense for a long time."

Natalie Williams led her team to a 18 point lead, with 14 points. The score at the buzzer read 79-61. Fans were excites, players were excited, and everybody had a great time. And nobody even dunked.
