Megan Drummond is the co-author of Journey Into Friendship, the book that was the subject of last week’s article. It is a true story of friendship and life with a disability, written with her best friend, Jessica McFarlane. Megan is a first time author, and hopes to become a professional freelance writer and novelist someday.
As near as her doctors can tell, Megan suffered a stroke when she was seven years old. Stroke is caused by a temporary disruption of the flow of blood to the brain or hemorrhaging in the brain. Megan’s doctors are not 100% certain that she had a stroke, let alone what caused it. In 16 years, she has never received a definitive diagnosis of her disability. A stroke is the best, educated guess that anyone has. It has affected her speech and paralyzed her right side, but has not impeded the progress that she has made in achieving her goals. Megan is a summer 1998 graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration on writing. After graduation, Megan got a job as an Information Systems Specialist and Volunteer Coordinator at a local agency that provides therapeutic and recreational opportunities to children with disabilities. After two years of doing this, Megan resigned to devote more time to her writing. She currently writes weekly features for BellaOnline and Suite101.com. She is also trying to get pieces accepted into print magazines, and is looking for a part time job at a local newspaper or magazine. In addition, Megan is working on a new book and has several ideas in development. Megan hopes to go back to school and earn her Master’s degree in English/Writing. In addition to being a novelist and freelance writer, she would like to become a college writing professor. In her free time, Megan enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading almost any book she can get (favorites include historical romance and Mary Higgins Clark), surfing the Web, and watching movies. AmErica House, LLC, has recently published her first book, Journey Into Friendship. It is available through the publisher and will soon, hopefully, be available on Amazon.com or BN.com.
