If you are backpacking with your dog, be sure to take all the supplies you need. Extra food, a first aid kit, and a dog pack can make your trek easier on both you and your dog. But of course, some things you learn about only by experience. I recently took my dog on a overnight trip along the Lost Coast, and realized partway through that the sand was ripping up his paws. And I always had thought those booties looked silly. . .
